Our Story

In 2014, a group of natural language processing, artificial intelligence and big data scientists met up with the strategy consulting firm KOMAND Consulting as part of a start-up mentorship program. It was love at first sight…and shortly thereafter SALIENTIQ was born!

Recognizing the unlimited potential of the scientists’ technology and the value it can provide, SALIENTIQ was established as a stand-alone entity to commercialize the technology as a Software-as-a-Service solution.

Our Mission

SALIENTIQ helps organizations focus on improving and introducing attributes – or product features – that really matter to their customers. We do this by providing insights at the product-level that empowers marketing and R&D departments to incorporate the consumer’s true needs into their product or service. Furthermore, organizations can highlight these salient attributes in their marketing strategies and promotional campaigns.

Nasos Makriyiannis co-founded SALIENTIQ in 2014. Working as a strategy consultant since 2006 as the managing partner of KOMAND Consulting (a SALIENTIQ partner company), Nasos wanted to develop a solution that harnessed the power of Big Data and social media to provide valuable and deep insights for KOMAND’s clients.

After realizing that the power of SALIENTIQ can be beneficial to many sectors and organizations, Nasos assumed the role of CEO and is responsible for the strategic direction and development of the business. With his engineering and software roots that stemmed from his technical consulting days at The Mathworks, Nasos is excited to promote SALIENTIQ and assist organizations in truly understanding their products and customer experiences. Nasos holds a Biomedical Engineering degree from Boston University and an MBA from the John Molson School of Business (Concordia University) where he also teaches strategy and entrepreneurship on a part-time basis. Nasos also uses his passion for entrepreneurship in his mentorship role at start-up accelerators such as FounderFuel and the Dobson Foundation.

Mohamad Mehdi co-founded SALIENTIQ in 2014. Mohamad is currently a senior data scientist at Mindgeek with more than five years of experience in developing machine learning and natural language processing algorithms in both academic and industrial evironments.

Mohamad is responsible of expanding and optimizing the algorithms at the core of SALIENTIQ by continuously conducting R&D in the opinion mining and sentiment analysis fields. He holds a Ph.D. degree in computer science with a speciality in machine learning and statistical modelling.
